Because you have to associate DNA Sequence Assembler with the SCF files.

Why is my 'Show desktop' not working if DNA Baser is associated with the SCF files?

There is a conflict of name between Microsoft SCF files and chromatogram SCF files. Accidentally, both files have the same extension. Because of the way Microsoft Windows has been designed, the SCF file (and any other file type) can be associated with A SINGLE program at a moment. Therefore, you cannot have it working at the same time with both DNA Baser and Show Desktop.

Is DNA Baser associating itself with SCF files by default?

No. Never! We will never change the settings of your system without asking your permission. During installation process DNA Baser presented you a dialog so you can choose if you want associate DNA Baser with the SCF files or not.

Is there a solution around this conflict?

Since 2007, we offer you a tool that can replace your old 'Show desktop' icon. This tool is called Show Desktop Alternative. It is much better than Microsoft's one as it offers additional features. Freeware!
